Our friend, Rachel passed away peacefully yesterday evening..
So glad I called her a couple of weeks ago..
We chatted for nearly 2 hours
I usually am in denial
And always hopeful that people will get better
But this time, I wanted to make sure
I said whatever I wanted to say, expressed love and gratitude to her before the time came..
Texted her a few evenings ago..
No reply for a couple of days
And then " Love you.."
She is not known for being brief in her words
So, I knew she was tired
I texted her back " I am so happy to hear back from you!"
Again, somewhat hopeful..
Alas..that text remains unopened....
Thank you for being the presence you were..
For the tea parties where you served your wicked, delectable cakes
The secret blueberries patches you shared with me
The stories you regaled me of your hunting days
And always the kind words of encouragement and support for my artwork..
I am just one more of those who love you too...
