About 2 guys who met
Lying beside each other in hospital beds
Having just been diagnosed with terminal illnesses
They decided to make a Bucket List to explore the world together
And became the fastest friends in the last three months of their lives
Which then suddenly triggered a memory of a friend
Who became my fastest friend after only 2 years
We had met through our children
We felt a connection right away
I learnt she was coping with breast cancer
She did it with a smile
And she kept a jolliness about her
Her condition worsened but I was blind to that
I became involved daily with her illness
Trying to feed her when she was slow to eat
Made her juices hoping it would make her strong
Thinking it was all just a phase she was undergoing
And of course, she was going to pull through
I was out in the garden
When I received news she had passed
My legs gave way under me
My hopes were completely smashed
Looking back I was in denial that my friend was dying
I had so wanted her to live
To be my friend who would see our children grow up together
I needed her more than she had needed me
I remember sitting on my pool steps
Letting the water hug and caress my sadness
Looking up to the sky
It was bluer than it had ever been
The trees around me were greener and more vibrant than I had ever seen
It was as though she was saying
She had gone to be part of the Universe
And she was all right and she was now whole and she was now perfect
Every morning for the next 2 years
The first thing that came to mind was my dear friend
It was then I joined The May Court Club of Oakville
To gain a whole new sisterhood
To replace the one sister I lost
I worked tiressly along many new beautiful friends for a May Court fundraiser
To raise funds for The Breast Cancer Support Services
All the time in love and in memory of my sweet friend....
