Having just arrived one evening at the long term care facility
Helen who is a mere 104 years young
Stopped by to say Hi to me
I just love how she pronounces Wonderful
"Vhandeful, vhanderful!"
How beautiful music makes her cry
And how she tries to stay happy all the time
She invited me to her room
I hesitated as I was keen to start work
But realised it was more of a privilege
To go sit at the feet of wisdom and the experienced
I picked out the next photo album from the last time we left off
There were photos of smiling Maria
Beside their house and beautiful garden with flowers galore
Maria was an artist friend
Being single, immigrant ladies
They met in Toronto and bought a house together
Flipped it at a profit and put it towards the next bigger house
They then travelled the world together
As she described the beauty and mystique she found in each country
There was a look of renewed wonder and marvel of the places she had seen
Her memory was impeccable
Yes.. those were vhandeful years but Maria fell ill and passed
She had the house sold and came to live here
How she misses Maria, tears rolling down her face
She had loved supporting her friend in her journey as an Artist
I gave her a hug and held her hand
We looked up at Maria's paintings on Helen's walls
I am very sure she so appreciated all the support you gave her, Helen... I said
She was very blessed to have had you as her friend...
Now isn't that a marvel as to how these two resourceful ladies
Carved a vhanderful life for themselves...
